That was the challenge that Mom had to do when Dad said ... "Baguette for weekend!" ...
Mom fainted ... and for 7 days the whole week, she read, she searched, she watched videos ....viola!
Late last night, since 9:30 pm Mom & Dad started saying who's recipe makes more sense, who's better ...
The next moment I know, Mom had already starting making her poolish (pre-ferment) 12 hours prior to baking.
Both we're supposed to wake up at 4 am to start first kneading, proofing, second kneading and proofing and third kneading and proofing with 2 hours time rest in between.... Dad refused to wake up! In the end, it was 6 am then Mom started to the whole bread-making process. Dad tried in the beginning too.
Before you know, time went by waiting for it to proof and finally into the oven it went. What was funny was NOBODY in the house remember that I, the Dog, still exist! My breakfast was late, Nobody talked to me. Mom and Dad were slouching beside the oven seeing what was going on inside. "Did it rise", "Did it double in size", "Did it collapse", "Did it brown", "Did it ...." ?!!
When the end product was finally put on the tray to cool, it smelled goods. Dad almost plunge his nose to smell it while I can only look!
I know what Mom was thinking ... :"Wonder if it is still chewy and wet inside!"
I also know what Dad is thinking ... "I think I might have to cook instant noodles for breakfast!"
While both my Mom & Dad were worrying about if their French baguette is edible ...
Mom and also DAD, finally said..." Can't take it no more! To the h*ll with the cooling process! I have to cut it open to see if the bubbling is correct and cooked!
Dad finally had his breakfast ... only 3 hours late ... more like brunch!
Whilst Mom is not suppose to eat gluten stuff ... ended up eating more than anything! Just cannot stop! The sea salt helps in flavoring the baguette. So I guess Mom & Dad are happy .. just eating bread ??
